Tips for First Time Jet Skiers
12th Nov 2019
Jet skiing is a fun activity that comes with risks. Listening to your guides and following these easy steps can decrease your risk of injuries. Continue reading for great tips for first-time riders.
Straight
It is often tricky for jet skiers to keep the jet ski straight for the first time. The good news is that it's easy to fix. Riders sometimes look at the front of the ski or the water. Instead, raise your head and look off in the distance. Another tip is to pick a target on land or in the water. This will enable you to go straight and enjoy your journey.
Keep Your Finger on the Throttle
The jet refers to the jet of water shooting from the back and making the ski go forward. The jet shifts side to side to steer the vehicle. ⠀No rudder, or control, to help with steering. Therefore, the ability to drive is reduced and you lose it entirely if you slow down or stop giving the machine power altogether. So, don't take your finger off the throttle if an emergency happens and you need to avoid an accident. Keep your speed and steer away.
Reboarding
People sometimes fall off their jet skis. Usually, this isn't a big deal and can be fun. There is also a way to get back on it. From the back, you always reboard a ski. ⠀Grab the handle behind the seat and pull yourself out of the water and onto the end of the jet ski. There should be only one person boarding at a time. The ski will flip if you attempt to reboard from the side. Reboarding can be tiring, so take it easy. Relax in the water and plan your reboard.
Relax
Beginner riders are almost always hanging on to dear life. Alternatively, lean slightly forward and loosen your hold. Keep your elbows bent slightly. This will help you to ride smoothly. Do not lean too far, and always be careful not to touch the handlebar with your chin or nose.
As a passenger, be careful not to hold the driver too tight. Hold their waist or the back of the life jacket in a relaxed manner.
